India has successfully concluded its participation in the 48th Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC48). The nation secured a unanimous mandate highlighting its commitment to collaborative global food governance, with a keen focus on efficiency, data management, and the establishment of equitable food standards, as announced by officials on Tuesday.
Led by Rajit Punhani, CEO of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and accompanied by health ministry and technical experts, the Indian delegation achieved several strategic outcomes. Notably, India was re-elected to the Executive Committee for Asia, reinforcing its leadership role in representing the continent's trade priorities at an international level until CAC50 in 2027.
India contributed significantly to discussions on enhancing Codex operations through modern technologies like AI. The delegation emphasized the need to update food safety databases and advocated for considering regional data in standard development, demonstrating India's active role in defending both national and regional interests.
