App Date Turns Dangerous: Knifepoint Robbery Shocks Kottuvally

A Kottuvally resident was robbed at knifepoint by two acquaintances from a dating app. The robbery unfolded when the accused threatened the victim, demanding money. Unable to comply, the victim was forced to transfer Rs 19,208 through a UPI app. Police are investigating the incident.

A 33-year-old man in Kottuvally experienced a nightmarish robbery at his home, orchestrated by two men he met on a dating app. Police reported on Monday that the crime unfolded after the victim invited one of the suspects, whom he had befriended online months ago, to his residence on Saturday night.

Upon arrival, one of the assailants seized a knife from the kitchen, threatening the victim and demanding cash. Unyielding to intimidation, the victim faced physical assault and confinement in a bedroom as the duo issued threats to defame him publicly.

Devoid of cash, the victim was coerced into transferring Rs 19,208 via his UPI app, stripping his bank account. A case has been registered under multiple sections including extortion and criminal intimidation. Authorities are utilizing digital transaction data and CCTV footage to track down the criminals.
