In a dramatic turn of events, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared singer Zubeen Garg's death a murder in the state assembly on Tuesday. The announcement comes after an extensive investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which found elements pointing to intentional killing.
Initially, the incident was suspected to be a case of culpable homicide, but Sarma insisted that the state police's findings confirmed otherwise, leading to the addition of section 103 of the BNS within days of Garg's untimely demise in Singapore. To date, the SIT has arrested seven suspects, interviewed 252 witnesses, and confiscated 29 pieces of evidence, underlining the complexity of the case.
Sarma assured the assembly of a robust chargesheet to be filed by December, foretelling a surprise motive behind the crime that will unsettle the state's populace. The probe will also delve into aspects of negligence and criminal breach of trust, expanding the current scope of the investigation.
