A Fast Track Special Court has sentenced Monu Kumar, 38, to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a 21-year-old MBA student in 2010. The court also fined the taxi driver Rs 50,000 for each offense.

The sentencing follows Kumar's previous conviction in another rape and murder case, where he revealed information about the 2010 crime, leading to his arrest. Convicted last Thursday, he was formally sentenced just a day later.

The victim's father expressed contentment with the court's decision, although the mother hoped for capital punishment. In July 2010, the woman's blood-stained body was discovered, leading to a lengthy investigation resolved only last year with Kumar's confession.
