The group, having found temporary refuge in various relief camps, attempted to march back to Gwaltabi, a location on the district's periphery. Their progress was halted by security personnel at Yaingangpokpi, leading to a confrontation.

Security forces resorted to tear gas to disperse the determined crowd. Despite government claims of restored normalcy, the tense standoff highlights ongoing challenges in the region, exacerbated since the Sangai Festival commenced on November 21.
