On Monday, Trinamool Congress' Rajya Sabha member Derek O'Brien emphasized the need for a comprehensive debate on the electoral roll revision exercise. Addressing Chairman C P Radhakrishnan, he highlighted the significance of maintaining a healthy federal structure in the Council of States.
O'Brien extended best wishes for good health to Radhakrishnan, noting the challenges of moving from Coimbatore to the capital. He urged the Chairman to uphold the responsibilities of the Upper House by allowing diverse voices to be heard, referencing pending funds for West Bengal and the decline in parliamentary sittings.
Criticizing the drop in number of discussions and scrutiny of bills, O'Brien called for an improved electoral process devoid of violence and urged immediate action for a transparent democracy. He underscored the government's accountability to Parliament, stressing the need for active sessions to ensure governance remains accountable to the people.
