CBI Arrests Fugitive in Decades-Old Rubaiyya Sayeed Kidnapping Case
The CBI has arrested Shafat Ahmed Shangloo, a wanted fugitive in the 1989 Rubaiyya Sayeed kidnapping case. Shangloo is alleged to be part of a conspiracy along with JKLF chief Yasin Malik. He was apprehended in Srinagar with the help of local police and carries a Rs 10 lakh bounty.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended Shafat Ahmed Shangloo, a fugitive wanted in connection with the high-profile 1989 kidnapping of Rubaiyya Sayeed, daughter of former Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.
Shangloo is accused of conspiring alongside Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik in orchestrating the abduction. The operation, carried out by the CBI in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police, culminated in his arrest from his Srinagar residence. A Rs 10 lakh reward had been placed on his head.
The case, steeped in history and controversy, continues to unravel as the charges against Malik and others progress through the legal system. Rubaiyya Sayeed, now a prosecution witness, has previously identified Malik during court proceedings via video link from Tihar Jail, where he is serving a sentence for terror financing.
