Hyderabad Native Tied to Australia's Worst Shooting in Decades

Indian authorities have confirmed that one of the gunmen in the recent mass shooting at Australia's Bondi Beach, Sajid Akram, hailed from Hyderabad. The shooting, deemed an act of terrorism, resulted in 16 fatalities, marking Australia's worst such incident in nearly three decades.

Akram, aged 50, was killed by police, while his son Naveed Akram, 24, is critically wounded. The elder Akram had limited ties with his family in India. They were unaware of his possible radicalisation, the state's police reported. Both men had visited the Philippines recently for reasons still under investigation, and authorities have not confirmed connections to any terrorist group.

Telangana police stated that Akram had visited India six times since relocating to Australia in 1998, mainly for family reasons, and had no adverse record while in India. As the investigation continues, officials examine the international aspects of their moves and mindset.
