Nick Ephgrave, the head of Britain's Serious Fraud Office, announced on Thursday his plans to retire at the end of March. His decision comes after serving about two-and-a-half years in the role and a total of 38 years in public service, coinciding with his 60th birthday.
Ephgrave is notably the first director of the office who is not a lawyer, bringing his extensive experience as a former senior police officer to the position. He was appointed on a five-year term starting September 25, 2023, making an early departure notable.
During a press conference, Ephgrave stated that he had informed the attorney general of his retirement plans. The appointment of an interim successor is anticipated as a formal recruitment process is set to begin shortly.
