A major explosion rocked the center of Utrecht, one of the Netherlands' largest cities, on Thursday afternoon, injuring several people and causing a fire.
Local authorities informed NOS broadcaster that at least four individuals were hurt in the blast, prompting the establishment of an emergency hospital in the vicinity. Sjaak Haasnoot, a spokesperson for the firefighters, stated, "The cause is still unknown... this happened in a building... at the moment we have four people injured."
The fire continued to rage around 1730 GMT. It remains uncertain if individuals are still inside the affected building as it poses significant safety risks for firefighters. Utrecht's mayor, Sharon Dijksma, commented, "We are not sure whether there are still people trapped under the rubble, which is definitely there... the police are working hard on the investigation."
