In a swift response to unrest, Hyderabad police have apprehended a suspect accused of damaging a religious idol at a temple veranda, police announced on Friday. The incident caused minor tension in the Puranapul area after it allegedly led to an attack on police personnel and the defacement of a religious structure.
Authorities reported the incident occurred late Wednesday, injuring four officers during a stone-pelting confrontation. Within 24 hours, the police arrested the suspect, accused of damaging a flexi-banner and a Plaster of Paris idol at Puranapool Darwaza Mysamma Temple.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police V C Sajjanar supervised the operation. The police used CCTV and video footage to identify those responsible for attacking the officers. They assured the public that the main idol in the Sanctum Sanctorum was unharmed, refuting widespread rumors of its destruction. The situation remains controlled and peaceful.
