An SUV, reported to be speeding, ran over three pedestrians at Padav Chowk, resulting in a fatality, police confirmed on Friday.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday night at the Mughalsarai police station area, incited local anger, leading to the vehicle being vandalized before authorities arrived to control the situation, officials stated.
Mughalsarai Station House Officer Santosh Kumar Singh identified the deceased as 25-year-old Irshad from Chaurahat. Both injured individuals, hailing from Varanasi, were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The SUV, registered in West Bengal, was seized, and the driver, Harish Yadav of Varanasi, has been detained.
