In a surprising move by the interim government, Omar Bin Hadi, the elder brother of Osman Sharif Bin Hadi, a slain radical youth leader, has been appointed as the second secretary at Bangladesh's diplomatic mission in Birmingham, UK, on a contractual basis.

Osman, who became a central figure as the spokesperson for the Inqilab Moncho, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head last December during an election campaign, leading to his death after a week of advanced treatment in Singapore. This incident triggered significant unrest across Dhaka, with violent protests targeting cultural institutions and the minority Hindu community.

The Daily Star reported that Omar's appointment, lasting for three years, is conditional on his severance from previous professional engagements, as noted by the Ministry of Public Administration. The government issued the order on Thursday, as confirmed by the Dhaka Tribune.
