In a significant move, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has appointed advocate B G Harindranath as the special prosecutor in an appeal by a nun accusing former Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal of rape.
The Chief Minister's Office confirmed the appointment in a statement, and a formal notification is expected soon. The victim behind the high-profile legal battle had approached the state government, requesting assistance to continue her case.
Bishop Mulakkal, who was acquitted in 2022, resigned from his position following the verdict. The nun has since challenged the trial court's decision in the Kerala High Court, determined to seek justice.
