Fresh unrest gripped West Bengal's Murshidabad district on Saturday as protesters again blocked National Highway-12 and railway tracks at Beldanga, after violent agitations over a migrant worker's death previously severed road and rail links across the state, police reported.
Hundreds gathered at Barua More in Beldanga, halting traffic on NH-12 and causing long vehicle queues, with protesters damaging a railway gate to disrupt train services. The unrest follows allegations of a local migrant worker Anisur Sheikh's assault in Bihar, stirring public anger after recent violence.
A substantial police deployment sought to calm the situation, while MLA Humayun Kabir engaged with protesters and officials to prevent further violence. Tension follows Alauddin Sheikh's controversial death, sparking outrage amid scheduled government events with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
