Cyber Crime Crackdown: Police Nab Extortionist

The Kannur City Cyber Police arrested Jivan Ram from Ludhiana for extorting Rs 10.5 lakh from a female doctor in Kerala. He posed as a CBI officer and threatened a 'digital arrest' to extract money, claiming a money laundering case was filed against her.

The Kannur City Cyber Police have successfully apprehended a 28-year-old man, Jivan Ram, from Ludhiana, Punjab. He allegedly extorted Rs 10.5 lakh from a female doctor in Thalassery, Kerala, under the pretense of a digital arrest.

Police reports indicate the incident took place on November 30, 2025. Ram, masquerading as a CBI officer, contacted the victim through a WhatsApp video call, claiming that she was implicated in a money laundering case and demanding the transfer of funds to resolve the issue. The doctor complied, unknowingly sending Rs 10.5 lakh across various accounts.

After intense efforts and navigating harsh weather conditions, a team from the Kannur City Police, guided by Commissioner Nidhinraj P, managed to apprehend the accused after five days of tracking. Despite his continuous evasion, the team succeeded in capturing him, marking a significant breakthrough in cybercrime prevention.
