In a significant legal move, the West Bengal government has contested an Enforcement Directorate plea at the Supreme Court. This plea pertains to alleged interference by state authorities during ED raids at the Kolkata office of political consultancy I-PAC.
The Supreme Court had earlier issued notices to several state officials including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, following claims of obstruction during the raid. The Enforcement Directorate seeks a CBI probe concerning these allegations.
The state government argues that concurrent proceedings are inappropriate as a related case awaits resolution at the Calcutta High Court. West Bengal further asserts that the ED overstretched its powers during the investigation.
