In a significant ruling, a Nagpur court has sentenced six individuals to three years in prison for their involvement in tiger poaching at the Pench Reserve. The conviction was delivered by Judicial First Class, Ramtek, VC Vorani on January 30, reaffirming the justice system's commitment to wildlife safety.
The illegal poaching activity, involving the use of electric currents, occurred on January 12, 2023, in the Pawani section of Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR). Under the leadership of then Field Director A Shreelakshmi and Dr. Prabhunath Shukla, the investigation was conducted by Range Forest Officer Jayesh Tayade and Assistant Conservator of Forests Atul Devkar.
The court proceedings were thorough, involving the examination of 10 witnesses, 113 documents, and 37 material exhibits. This judgement stands as a powerful statement towards wildlife protection, emphasizing the consequences of poaching and the dedication to preserving India's natural heritage.
