In Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district, authorities have arrested 23 individuals, including nine women, for allegedly disrupting a national highway and assaulting police officers. This incident followed the contentious death of a local young man and subsequent protests that turned violent.

The deceased, a 22-year-old, reportedly died after being deceitfully poisoned, and his death led to unrest. Villagers, allegedly instigated by others, took to the streets, placing his body on the Lucknow-Prayagraj National Highway, thus intensifying the protests.

Attempts by police to peacefully disperse the crowd failed, resulting in clashes and injuries, as protesters turned to stone-throwing and damaging government property. Additional arrests were made following the violence as law enforcement aimed to restore order.
