Divakar Jayant Takes Charge as DG Naval Armament at Naval Headquarters

Shri Divakar Jayant, INAS, assumed charge as the Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA) at Naval Headquarters, Ministry of Defence, on 2 February 2026. He succeeds Shri P. Upadhyay, who superannuated on 31 January 2026, after a distinguished tenure.


Over Three Decades of Service to Naval Readiness

A 1991-batch officer of the Indian Naval Armament Service (INAS), Shri Divakar Jayant joined the Naval Armament Organisation of the Indian Navy on 28 December 1992. Over a career spanning 33 years, he has held a range of critical leadership and technical positions, contributing significantly to India’s naval combat preparedness.

His key assignments include serving as Chief General Manager and General Manager/Principal Director at major Naval Armament Depots in Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, and Alwaye, as well as at Naval Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence.


Technical Expertise in Strategic Weapon Systems

An Electrical Engineering graduate from IIT Delhi, Shri Jayant is widely regarded for his expertise in the life-cycle management of torpedoes, a core capability area for the Indian Navy. He also specialises in the planning and execution of explosive infrastructure projects, which are vital for safe storage, handling, and operational readiness of naval armaments.

In addition to his technical acumen, he brings extensive experience in human resource management and administration, having overseen large, complex organisations across multiple naval establishments.


Advanced Training and Strategic Outlook

Further strengthening his professional credentials, Shri Divakar Jayant has undergone the prestigious Advanced Professional Programme in Public Administration (APPPA) during 2017–18, equipping him with a broader strategic and policy-oriented perspective.


Strengthening Naval Armament Capability

As DGONA, Shri Divakar Jayant is expected to play a key role in modernising naval armament systems, enhancing indigenous capability, and ensuring robust logistics and life-cycle support for the Indian Navy’s expanding operational footprint.

His appointment comes at a time when the Navy is accelerating efforts towards self-reliance, advanced weapon integration, and infrastructure modernisation under the broader vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
