Somaliland Looks to Seal Landmark Trade Deal with Israel

Somaliland is on the brink of a groundbreaking trade agreement with Israel, the first country to formally recognize its independence. President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi revealed in a Reuters interview that the deal could include rights to valuable mineral deposits.

Israel recognized Somaliland in December, aiming for swift cooperation in key sectors. While attending the World Government Summit in Dubai, President Abdullahi emphasized the rich resource potential in Somaliland, including lithium critical for energy technologies.

Despite international tensions surrounding Israel's recognition, Abdullahi hopes other countries will follow suit. He views Israel's decision as a catalyst for future recognition and collaboration, especially in investment and technology exchange.
