Gurmeet Singh, a naturalised American citizen of Indian origin, is set to lose his citizenship following revelations of grave misconduct hidden during his naturalisation process.

The United States Justice Department launched a denaturalisation action against Singh in New York after it emerged he had committed rape and kidnapping, heinous crimes concealed on his naturalisation application. Singh, who moved to the US via family-based immigration, allegedly attacked a female passenger in his taxicab, binding and violating her at knifepoint.

Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate emphasized the gravity of Singh's deceit, noting the US's commitment to rectify such injustices. US Attorney Joseph Nocella highlighted the importance of defending the sanctity of US citizenship from individuals who obtain it through deceit and concealment.
