The Election Commission has stepped up efforts to educate voters in West Bengal on the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter verifiable paper audit trails (VVPATs) ahead of the assembly polls. Officials announced the initiative on Tuesday, detailing the deployment of extensive resources for training and awareness.

A total of 6,259 ballot units, 6,259 control units, and an array of VVPATs have been allocated specifically for this purpose. These materials, shared with representatives of major political parties, are integral to familiarizing the electorate with the voting process, a key priority as election day approaches.

EVM Demonstration Centres have been established at district and returning officer headquarters, providing live demonstrations for public learning. Moreover, 294 mobile demonstration vans have already covered substantial ground, visiting 4,617 polling locations statewide. Once the election schedule is formally announced, digital platforms will take over the awareness drive.
