Rebel Movement Claims Strike on Kisangani Airport

The AFC/M23 rebel movement in the Democratic Republic of Congo has taken responsibility for a drone attack on the airport in Kisangani, a vital city in the northeast of the country. On Tuesday, Corneille Nangaa, leader of the AFC, asserted the assault via social media.

The Tshopo provincial government reported that eight drones loaded with explosives targeted the airport, which is located 17 km from Kisangani's center. Despite being far from the active front lines in North and South Kivu, the region has seen significant rebel activity, including the capture of Goma and Bukavu last year.

Nangaa stated that the military's losing air control was evident and stressed that Kisangani would no longer serve as a base for military operations against their territories. As of now, Congo's military has not commented on the incident.
