Several MLAs from Rajouri and Poonch protested outside the Legislative Assembly complex on Wednesday, demanding an apology from the Leader of Opposition for allegedly denying the existence of the Pir Panjal region in Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest followed the adjournment of the Assembly by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, after the session descended into chaos amid accusations and verbal duels between BJP and ruling alliance members. Congress MLA Iftikhar Ahmed brought up the issue, asserting that Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma claimed Pir Panjal doesn't exist in the region.
MLAs from the twin districts, including Aijaz Jan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Javaid Iqbal, Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, and Choudhary Akram, staged a dharna outside the House, insisting that unless Sharma issues an apology, they will not allow the House to function. Sharma, however, refused to apologise, reiterating that Jammu and Kashmir is a single entity.
