India's Bold Steps Towards Ending Child Marriage: A National Campaign

India's national campaign 'Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat' has impacted over six crore people, registering more than 28 lakh pledges against child marriage. Launched in 2024, the campaign uses a comprehensive approach, and includes a 100-day special initiative to mobilize various societal stakeholders and strengthen legal enforcement.

India has launched a national initiative titled 'Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat' aiming to eradicate child marriage. According to Women and Child Development Minister Annpurna Devi, this campaign has influenced over six crore individuals, with more than 28 lakh pledges registered against the practice as of now.

The campaign, initiated on November 27, 2024, adopts an all-encompassing strategy that involves government and societal engagement. A 100-day special campaign began on December 4, 2025, targeting mobilization of stakeholders including educational institutions, religious bodies, and local governance units to declare child-marriage-free zones.

To further support the initiative, a digital platform called the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat (BVMB) portal has been launched. This platform aids in reporting child marriage cases, disseminating information, and facilitates pledge registrations. Additionally, enforcement of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, is being strengthened with increased capacity building among various child protection and law enforcement agencies.
