British police have urged the government to withhold the release of certain documents concerning Peter Mandelson, the former UK ambassador to Washington, due to an ongoing investigation.
Earlier this week, an investigation was launched into Mandelson over alleged misconduct in public office, following accusations he leaked sensitive market information to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In a statement, Metropolitan Police Commander Ella Marriott noted that upon being consulted about the government's intent to publish the material, they recommended against releasing specific documents to avoid compromising the investigation.
