The Supreme Court has delayed the hearing of Gitanjali J Angmo's petition, challenging the detention of her husband, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, under the National Security Act (NSA). Wangchuk is accused of inciting last year's violence in Leh, which led to four deaths.
Defense lawyer Kapil Sibal argued that authorities misrepresented evidence, using 'borrowed material' to justify Wangchuk's arrest. The government references Wangchuk's alleged rhetoric on replicating Arab Spring-like protests, posing a threat to national security in sensitive border areas.
While the Center insists on procedural integrity, Wangchuk and Angmo denounce this as an arbitrary act infringing fundamental rights. The hearing is set for February 9, amidst growing scrutiny and calls for justice.
