The Supreme Court has stepped in to address allegations of malpractices in the recent Chhattisgarh State Bar Council elections. A high-powered committee led by former apex court judge Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia will investigate the claims.
Despite a Supreme Court directive barring high courts from intervening in state bar council election matters, the Chhattisgarh High Court reportedly dealt with related issues, prompting decisive action from the top court. Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra presented the concerns to a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant.
The newly appointed committee will not only investigate the allegations but also oversee pending office bearer elections, with the Bar Council of India covering their expenses. The report is expected to be delivered within two weeks, shedding light on the integrity of the electoral process in question.
