In a session at the Assembly, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah addressed the pressing issue of administrative units. On Saturday, Abdullah clarified that the government has no immediate plans to create new administrative units, opting instead to focus on the effective operation of those already sanctioned.
MLAs have expressed concerns that many of these units are not operational yet, a point Abdullah acknowledged. The Chief Minister emphasised the need for these units to become functional before opening any new ones, stating that operationalisation of existing units is the government's primary responsibility.
Abdullah highlighted specific actions already taken, such as the sanctioning of nine new sub-divisions and additional tehsils in 2014. However, these plans have been largely in abeyance since 2018. Only certain tehsils in specific districts have remained operational.
