Cracking Down on Fuel Hoarding: Government's Vigilant Steps

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed states to curb hoarding and black marketing of petroleum and LPG amid Strait of Hormuz closure. They are enhancing enforcement, communication, and supply measures to ensure fuel availability. Citizens are advised against panic buying, encouraged to use digital booking methods, and adopt energy conservation practices.

In response to supply concerns caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the Centre has instructed states and Union Territories to implement stringent measures against the hoarding and black marketing of petroleum products and LPG.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has invoked the Essential Commodities Act, urging states to enhance enforcement through daily raids and inspections, maintaining vigilance against misinformation, and working closely with oil marketing companies.

Amid the geopolitical turmoil, citizens are advised against panic buying, with the government prioritizing domestic LPG supply and critical sectors while suggesting the use of alternative fuels to manage demand effectively.
