The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mumbai is taking stringent measures against individuals, particularly illegal Bangladeshis, who have obtained counterfeit birth certificates. Mayor Ritu Tawde revealed that 237 fraudulent certificates issued by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials have been annulled, yet the original documents remain unrecovered.

In light of these revelations, Tawde has instructed officials to expedite the recovery process within a 15-day deadline or face significant consequences. Eight FIRs have been filed, and two health department officers have been suspended thus far as investigations continue into the widespread malpractice.

However, the crackdown has sparked political discourse, with opposition leaders scrutinizing the BJP's governance. Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray opined that the mayor's focus on illegal immigration overshadows pressing local issues, while Clyde Crasto from the NCP (SP) criticized the BJP for failing to address genuine municipal concerns.
