Knife-Wielding Attacker Shot Near Arc de Triomphe
A man attempting to attack a police officer with a knife near the Arc de Triomphe in Paris was shot and later died from his injuries. The attacker, recently released from prison after serving 12 years for terrorism, was under police scrutiny. No officers or civilians were harmed.
An assailant brandished a knife at a police officer near Paris's Arc de Triomphe before being shot by law enforcement and subsequently succumbing to his injuries, according to France's anti-terrorism prosecution office.
The incident resulted in no injuries to the police officer or bystanders. It was revealed that the attacker had been released from prison just last December, after serving a 12-year sentence for terrorism-related offenses.
The attack occurred near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where officers were involved in a ceremonial duty. The suspect, a French national born in 1978, had previously been convicted for an attempted murder linked to terrorism in Belgium and placed under regular police surveillance following his release.
