In a shocking case of alleged dowry harassment, police have booked the husband and in-laws of a pregnant woman, Taslima, for reportedly attacking her with the intent of causing an abortion. The incident occurred amid repeated demands for dowry, police officials said on Sunday.
According to authorities, a case was registered based on Taslima's complaint against her husband Riaz Ahmed and various in-laws under several charges, including cruelty and voluntary harm, at the Aurai police station. A raid was conducted at the accused's residence in Mirzapur district, but all suspects have reportedly absconded.
The complainant, Taslima, who married Riaz Ahmed in June 2022, alleged violence and cruelty following her refusal to comply with dowry demands. A severe assault on February 5 led to her hospitalization after neighbors intervened, revealing the ordeal. Meanwhile, police efforst continue to locate the absconding suspects.
