Supreme Court Postpones Hearing on CBI's Plea Against Lalu Prasad Yadav's Bail

The Supreme Court has adjourned until April 22 the hearing of a CBI plea against bail granted to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. The plea challenges a Jharkhand High Court order linked to the Deoghar treasury scam, in which Yadav was convicted and sentenced to 3.5 years.

The Supreme Court deferred the CBI's plea hearing challenging the bail of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in a scam involving the Deoghar treasury until April 22. The adjournment was due to incomplete pleadings and the death of some accused.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the CBI, argued that the Jharkhand High Court's decision to grant bail was illegal, as it suspended the sentence in violation of the law. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Yadav, noted that not all accused had been served notice.

The Jharkhand High Court admitted an appeal last year for a longer sentence for Yadav, who was convicted of defalcating Rs 89 lakh in the treasury scam when he supervised the animal husbandry department. The CBI claims Yadav's 3.5-year sentence was too lenient.
