The Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, alongside senior officials from the election commission, is set to visit West Bengal to evaluate the state's readiness for the upcoming assembly elections. The team is expected to arrive on Sunday night and will engage in discussions with political parties, and civil and police officials over the following two days.
This visit is part of a broader assessment, as the tenures of legislative assemblies in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry are due to end between May and June. Consequently, assembly elections are anticipated in these locations by April.
Additionally, the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has been concluded, with finalized voter lists published for the respective states and Union Territory. The election commission is likely to release the official schedule for the assembly elections shortly.
