In a significant operation, police in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district rescued 20 bovine animals allegedly trafficked inside a water tanker and truck. The crackdown led to the arrest of two suspects involved in the illicit trade, officials reported on Tuesday.

The first operation unfolded under the Rajbagh police station area where a water tanker, suspiciously driven by Rashid Ali from Kathua, was inspected during routine checking. Authorities discovered seven cows packed inside, necessitating the use of extensive resources including JCB machines to safely extricate the animals.

A second incident saw police halting a suspicious truck at Londi Morh on the highway. This vehicle, originating from Punjab and bound for Jammu, contained 13 bovines. The driver, Muzammil from Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district, was arrested, and stringent legal action was initiated under laws preventing cruelty to animals.
