Cooperation with the U.S. has been prioritized to address visa-related issues.
In a significant political development, Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Gaston Browne claimed a sweeping electoral victory, securing a fourth consecutive term in office late Thursday. Browne's Labour Party emerged victorious with 15 out of 17 seats in the parliament, as indicated by preliminary official figures.
The victory underscored voter confidence in Browne’s economic policies, despite campaign tensions over U.S. visa restrictions that have impacted local citizens. The Prime Minister highlighted his economic strategies, including a post-pandemic tourism recovery and infrastructure growth, as key elements in his successful campaign strategy.
In response to international concerns about the Citizenship by Investment Program, Browne's administration has reportedly made efforts to enhance the program's security and transparency. Anticipating a challenging international environment, the Labour Party called the general election two years early to secure a renewed mandate from the public.
