Tragedy at Bargi Dam: Cruise Boat Mishap Claims Nine Lives

A tragic incident unfolded at Bargi Dam in Jabalpur district as a cruise boat capsized amid a sudden storm, claiming nine lives. The Madhya Pradesh government has swiftly responded by initiating a probe into the accident and imposing a ban on the operation of such vessels statewide.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased. He praised the locals who risked their lives to save others during the mishap, adding that they will be honored on Independence Day for their heroism. The mishap occurred when a seasonal cyclone hit, leading to the boat overturning and causing this tragic loss.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his sympathy and directed an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the deceased's next of kin and Rs 50,000 for the injured, from the PM National Relief Fund. The proactive efforts of rescue teams resulted in the safe evacuation of 29 individuals, while search operations continued for the missing.
