Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis disclosed on Tuesday that of the 136 cases recommended by the state human rights commission over a 12-year period, only 57 have seen action. This announcement came after BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar's criticism of government inaction despite ongoing complaints.
Fadnavis reported to the assembly that 30 cases are still pending at the Bombay High Court, and the government has filed review petitions for nine instances. Bhatkhalkar denounced delays in compensation payments, noting Rs 3.4 crore had not been timely disbursed, leading to judicial interventions.
The Bombay High Court expressed dissatisfaction with the government's delay, enforcing the deposit of compensation funds. Fadnavis noted that while some victims refused compensation, departmental actions are proceeding on other unresolved matters.
