In a bid to address long-pending water and irrigation concerns, MPs from Karnataka have agreed to form a delegation to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar in his capacity as Water Resources Minister, saw attendance from 24 of the state's 41 MPs.
The discussions centered around key projects like the Mekedatu and the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II award, with plans to meet central ministers and the Prime Minister after the next meeting which will be scheduled post state assembly elections. Some BJP members have requested a follow-up meeting after upcoming assembly elections due to the potential impact on the poll-bound states.
High-profile absentees included Union Ministers Prahlad Joshi and V Somanna, who cited parliamentary commitments. Projects discussed also included the Upper Bhadra Project and Kalasa-Banduri Nala Projects, with aid announcements and pending clearances showing slow progress.
