The global community is unprepared for a potential Middle East refugee crisis, the UN migration agency warned on Tuesday. Ongoing conflicts, particularly the US-Israeli confrontation with Iran, are poised to displace millions, according to Lukas Gehrke, Brussels director of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

In Lebanon, conflict has resulted in over a million displaced individuals, and around 100,000 Syrians have fled into Syria, where the IOM estimates that 250,000 refugees will soon require essential aid such as food and medicine. Within Iran, fighting has led to damage of 55,000 civilian structures, including 30,000 homes, forcing people to seek shelter internally. The IOM is tracking over half a million vehicles moving north.

The conflict has further disrupted international supply chains, and reduced funding has put a strain on aid organizations. 'We must remain mindful of our financial limits,' said Gehrke. 'This situation serves as a significant test for all involved.'
