Naveen Patnaik, president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), firmly defended the Biju Naveen Inspirational Foundation amidst political scrutiny. Patnaik emphasized that the trust is a charitable initiative meant to benefit Odisha's populace, disconnected from any political parties.
Clarifying further, Patnaik shared that the foundation was established with his personal funding of Rs 1 lakh, following legal consultations, before his neck surgery in Mumbai. He intended the foundation to continue the philanthropic legacy of his father, Biju Patnaik, renowned for his public service.
Critics, however, including expelled BJD member Pravat Biswal and BJP spokesperson Anil Biswal, challenged aspects of the trust's operations, questioning its benefits for Odisha and revealing affiliations they claim were insufficiently disclosed.
