Sudan's Strategic Military Shift: General Yassir al-Atta Takes Command
Sudan has appointed General Yassir al-Atta as the chief of staff of the Armed Forces, marking a significant shift since the war with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Al-Atta, known for his critical stance on the UAE's alleged support for RSF, replaces career soldier Othman al-Hussein.
In a significant military maneuver, Sudan has appointed General Yassir al-Atta as the new chief of staff of the Armed Forces. The decision marks the most notable personnel change since the conflict with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces emerged three years ago.
General al-Atta, a veteran with over 40 years of service, has voiced strong criticism against the United Arab Emirates, accusing them of supporting RSF, alongside some Sudanese civilian politicians. Both the UAE and these politicians have denied such allegations.
Al-Atta succeeds career soldier Othman al-Hussein in this pivotal role, which is expected to reshape military strategy and operations as tensions rise, particularly in the southeastern Blue Nile state.
