Anand Kumar, 35, led a sophisticated romance scam operation that swindled over 500 women across India, amassing more than Rs 2 crore in the process. The accused, posing under various false identities, was apprehended by southwest cyber police, as per Deputy Commissioner Amit Goel.
Kumar employed fake profiles on social media and dating platforms, presenting himself as a doctor, film producer, or businessman to earn trust from unsuspecting victims. He meticulously built emotional bonds before introducing financial distress scenarios, urging women to provide monetary aid under the guise of urgent crises.
Further investigations revealed Kumar's involvement in extortion using personal content shared by victims, alongside extensive efforts to evade law enforcement detection. His arrest has initiated a deeper probe into the financial trail and identification of additional victims in this large-scale operation.
