Delhi's Mayoral Race: The Battle for Civic Leadership

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced elections for the mayor, deputy mayor, and three standing committee members on April 29. According to an official notice, the election will take place at 2 pm in the civic centre, adhering to the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957 and related regulations.

Nominations are open until April 23 at 5 pm. This year's mayoral term is under the fifth cycle, a general seat, and the BJP appears poised to gain control, holding 141 votes in the 273-member electoral college compared to AAP's 106 votes. The BJP's edge comes courtesy of councillors, MPs, and MLAs backing them.

Nomination papers can be collected from the municipal secretary's office on weekdays. Candidates can withdraw their nominations before the election proceedings start at the meeting, ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process.
