A Japanese military vessel's traverse through the Taiwan Strait has been labeled a 'deliberate provocation' by China, further straining Sino-Japanese relations. A Japanese Self-Defense Forces vessel has traversed the Taiwan Strait, prompting a strong reaction from China's foreign ministry, which has condemned the action as a deliberate provocation. This development unfolds amid already strained relations between China and Japan.
According to Japan's Kyodo news agency, the escort ship Ikazuchi sailed through the strait on Friday. Officials from Japan's Self-Defense Forces have declined to comment on the situation and China's sharp remarks. Since Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's declarations about a potential military response to a Chinese attack on Taiwan, Sino-Japanese relations have only deteriorated.
China continues to assert its sovereignty over Taiwan and the Taiwan Strait, criticizing any foreign military presence there. The move by Japan is seen as a provocation, particularly following Takaichi's comments. In response, China has taken diplomatic actions and closely monitored transits in the region, emphasizing its objections to Japan's military maneuvers.
