A special court in Ahmedabad has sentenced a Filipino woman to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for smuggling heroin. The convicted, Ginalean Padiwan Limon, aged 41, was charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for her involvement in trafficking 2.1 kg of heroin.
According to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Limon was apprehended at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport following a lookout notice. The arrest was made in coordination with the Bureau of Immigration on June 11, 2024. The investigation revealed she was acting at the behest of an overseas drug syndicate, using her as a carrier.
This incident marks her third visit to India, ultimately leading to her conviction after she admitted to her role under section 67 of the NDPS Act. The court proceedings highlighted her repeated involvement in trafficking, resulting in a substantial sentence and a Rs 2 lakh fine.
