Two undertrial prisoners were discovered dead in their cells at different jails in Assam's Nagaon district, according to officials. The separate incidents took place at Nagaon Central Jail and Nagaon Special Jail, both located within the same premises, albeit under different administrations.

The first victim, Rupsingh Dera, who faced murder charges, was found lifeless during the morning inspection at Nagaon Special Jail. Simultaneously, Jitumoni Konwar, another undertrial prisoner, was found dead in his bed at Nagaon Central Jail.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death for both inmates. In response, District Commissioner Devashish Sharma has initiated an inquiry to uncover the circumstances surrounding these mysterious deaths.
