The Lok Sabha Committee on Subordinate Legislation expressed its astonishment over procedural oversights by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The committee highlighted that crucial regulations issued by the NMC were not vetted by the Union law ministry, a key step in ensuring legal robustness.
This oversight came to light during the examination of regulations related to medical qualifications and faculty drafting by the NMC. The committee's report, tabled during the Budget session, called the absence of proper vetting a missed 'non-negotiable step' in the framing of subordinate legislation.
The parliamentary panel urged the health ministry to ensure such errors are avoided in future regulations, emphasizing the importance of vetting by the law ministry to prevent potential legal issues.
